A few traffic rules that are particular to Mississippi and frequently show up on the test.
Mississippi speed limits by roadway type
The maximum speed for passenger vehicles is 70 mph on interstates, 65 mph on four-lane state and U.S. highways, and 55 mph on two-lane highways. The Natchez Trace Parkway is limited to 50 mph, and school zones drop to 15 mph when children are present.
Zero tolerance and the 0.02% BAC limit for under-21 drivers
A driver 21 or older is considered under the influence at a BAC of 0.08% or more. Mississippi enforces zero tolerance for underage drivers — anyone under 21 is in violation at a BAC of just 0.02% or more.
Stop at least 10 feet from a stopped school bus
When a school bus shows flashing red lights and/or an extended stop sign, you must stop at least ten feet away regardless of your direction of travel. You only avoid stopping when a divided highway of four or more lanes separates you from an oncoming bus.
Move Over for stopped emergency vehicles
If an emergency vehicle with lights or siren activated is parked along a four-lane highway, you must merge into the lane farther away when it is safe. If merging is not safe, you must slow down and be prepared to stop. You must yield the right of way.
Vehicle lighting law
Besides two headlights, a vehicle may have no more than one spotlight and no more than three auxiliary lights, and no more than four lights (not counting headlights) burning at once. It is illegal for any of these lights to be red or blue.
